I am very particular about the projects I take on and the songs I write. I have never been an assembly line songwriter. Creativity does not happen on a schedule for me. There have been times when I have woken up at 2:00 in the morning with an idea and written until 6:00. When inspiration shows up, I want to be there to receive it.
Because I can write a song in its entirety, I have never felt the need to co-write simply for the sake of co-writing. The right collaboration has to have trust, honesty, and enough creative freedom to say, "I don't like that," or, "Let's try something else." Mike Mikel and I have always had that kind of musical relationship. Years ago, we spent endless hours in studios in Los Angeles writing, creating, and experimenting because we genuinely loved the process.
When Mike and I reconnected, he asked if I wanted to hear a few tracks. I said absolutely. A few were not for me, because I know what I connect with, but the moment he played me a glimpse of the track that became "Girls Night Out," it was an immediate yes. I tried a few lyrical directions before realizing exactly what I wanted it to be: a girls' anthem.
I sing live at events and occasionally DJ as well, and I kept noticing there wasn't a current song that really pulled the women onto the dance floor. I wanted something fun, confident, and infectious. The kind of song a group of friends would turn up on a night out, or a bachelorette party would make their own.
Mike may have wondered what I was getting him into at first, but once he heard the vocal ideas, hooks, and direction, everything clicked. He did an amazing job bringing the track to life, and the finished song feels exactly like what we set out to make: upbeat, rhythmic, playful, and made to move. I feel completely confident putting "Girls Night Out" into the world, and we hope people have as much fun with it as we did creating it.

“Orbit” began with a driving, melodic pop instrumental from my co-writer, Mike Mikel. For me, songwriting is a lot like solving a Rubik’s Cube, turning melodies around and swapping hooks until every piece fits. We don’t settle easily. That first spark is where the work begins.
We originally wrote the song to pitch to another recording artist, but getting it into the right hands proved more complicated than we expected. Taking another look at the arrangement, we realized we wanted to release it ourselves.
My musical roots lean toward the organic and bluesy, but today I write and sing whatever moves me. The days of letting outside voices dictate my direction are over. The music has to feel true to me.
You can’t predict where a song will land or who it will reach. You can only decide whether you believe in it enough to put it into the world. With “Orbit,” we do.
The artist

Tina Vale is a powerhouse singer, songwriter and recording artist who shapes her own musical identity. From writing and collaborating to arranging intricate vocal layers and harmonies, her sonic fingerprint is entirely her own.
Her career includes writing deals with NEM Entertainment in Los Angeles and N2D2 in Nashville, vocal work on projects for Steve Winwood and Dusty Springfield, and backing vocals on Brian Tankersley’s remix of Wynonna Judd’s “No One Else on Earth,” alongside numerous Christian recordings.
As half of the contemporary country duo Redmon & Vale, she was signed to DreamWorks Records by industry titans James Stroud and Scott Borchetta. She also toured the nation as a backing vocalist on Kathy Mattea’s Love Travels tour.
Now based in Phoenix and performing across the Valley, Tina creates without boundaries. “At this point in life, I'll write whatever I feel and moves me,” she says. That instinct drives her upcoming releases, crafted with longtime friend, cowriter and producer Mike Mikel. “Girls Night Out” is a girls’ anthem with a retro disco and funk feel and bright pop hooks, while “Orbit” delivers an organic pop sound with a country edge. Both carry Tina’s signature, lushly layered vocal arrangements.
